Tibetan Medicine

The Tibetan medicine clinic in Chunubar was built and supported by 'People and Plants Initiative' and WWF Nepal, but lost those contributions in 2006 because the programs ended. We started supporting the Tibetan doctors (Amchis) so that they could still continue their work and the traditional health care was sustained for the school and its surrounding.

Because the Amchis are monks, they cannot take on any economic activities and the traditional forms of support through the local population are currently not enough to sustain the clinic. Therefore we give contributions to the food of the monks so that they can stay at the clinic and do not have to go to the village to be invited into someone's house for food.
The Amchis also teach local culture and transmit their knowledge on Tibetan botany and medicine. In return the students help collect plants while learning about them.
