The Lessons
Besides the national school curriculum the children also learn local tradition and culture. The national school curriculum includes Nepali, history, mathematics and sciences. At the same time the students are taught in Tibetan and English language. In total the children acquire skills in three writing systems simultaneously.
Local tradition and culture is transmitted in a variety of subjects, such as Tibetan medicine, dance, Bon religion and local history. In their lessons in Tibetan medicine the children participate in field trips. Along with Tibetan doctors they specify plants in their natural habitat and collect them. During visits to the villages the elders transmit local history, songs and traditional knowledge in workshops. Additionally, the school organises a large cultural show with dance and theater performances, a volleyball tournament and various games and competitions. The parents are invited to this event so the children can show what they have learnt.
